So we had the BT engineer over today to fix our internet, just after Dom said 'hope you don't mind small rodents' we had something of a surprise!
A Little Surprise! IMG_4205
I'm moving him into the other mini duna and feeding him up for a couple of weeks as he's only little, when he's big and strong we're going to let him out in Holyrood park.
I straight away went on Skype looking for Topaze who gave me some useful hints so he's being fed rat food and bird seed and will have water in a jar lid. Going to keep him on Megazorb and give him some paper bedding and avoid handling as much as I can so he doesn't get tame.
Any other tips are appreciated, I'll come back with better photos later!

Going by this he's too young to be fully weened, he wasn't interested in the syringe so I soaked a bit of cat milk into some bread, hoping to get kitten mil at pets at home tonight but that will have to do for now. Just checked and he's eating it so that's good!

I hand reared 5 baby mice not so long back funnily enough. I fed them using a glass pippett which you can buy from your local pharmacy. I made my own mix of;
Milk, egg yolk & mayonnaise. Whisk it together (you wont need much) an put a small amount in a small container (I used a cup out of cough medicine box lol) stand it in some hot water for a minute, suck it up the pippett (test in on your wrist) and away you go. You may have to force feed for the first few times, but will get the hang of it. Good luck :-)

I've been giving him boiled white rice soaked in lactol. He's somewhere between two and three weeks I think, he looks like he's only started opening his eyes recently. From the way he acts I think he was in the process of weening when he got lost as he will eat small seed but still doesn't seem to quite get drinking from a water bowl so nice soft rice with milk is a nice wee alternative for him because it's easy for him to eat, provides the nutrients he needs and keeps him hydrated. I'm not going to syring feed unless he seems to not be doing well as I don't want to tame him, I think he may be old enough that if he were to be released into the wild he'd have the l33t skillz required to make it if he were a little older. If he seems like he isn't doing well though then I will hang the consequences and syringe feed him but I'm trying to avoid him getting tame :-/
We'll see how it goes I guess! He's still alive so I guess that's a good sign!

But thanks for the tip! If syringe feeding becomes necessary I'm sure it shall come in most helpful Very Happy (Sorry, just realised the last post may have sounded a bit shooting down-ness, I'm just trying not to tame him because I want him to have the best life I can help him have which means first giving him the option of going back to the wild if I can ^_^)

The two popular theories are he came down the chimney or through the front door which has a gap at the bottom :-/

Oh dear, another little surprise, some kind of parasite :-/ Anyone know what's common to wild mice and how to treat them?

Huh, potentially belay that, either he's waaay into the substrate (and I don't think it's quite that deep) or he has escaped! I have no idea how but I can only assume if he is spry enough to have escaped he is spry enough to look after himself. We're getting humane mouse traps to see if any mouse is still around. I'll clean out the cage tomorrow so if he is hiding really well I'll find out then but I'm pretty sure he's gone... Good luck little guy <3

MItes and Lice are common, you would need to treat with ivermectin but only a drop ona baby mouse. He must've jumped up and gotten through the bars!!!

UPDATE:
He is indeed on the loose, I nearly caught him in the bedroom but he's quite the jumper now so I think he will be okay to be released when we do catch him. Now we just need to, y'know, catch him...
